An expert as a birding guide of South India and the Andaman Islands, Jijo Mathew has good experience in handling numerous group tours across the globe. He is renowned as lepidopterist and has sound knowledge about Odonata of South India as well as the flora of the Western Ghats. His works are well acclaimed by prominent birders and global birding organisations and has been featured in popular dailies and magazines including the New York Times, the Lonely Planet magazine and Outlook Traveller. His core areas lies in Periyar Tiger Reserve, Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary, Munnar, Ooty and the Andaman Islands among other areas. Backed with eighteen years of experience, Jijo’s portfolio includes extensive involvement in Biodiversity.
Assessment projects in collaboration with Centre for Ecological Sciences (CES) and the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.While he has sound experience as a Nature Education Officer at Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary, Jijo is active member of OBC and well acclaimed for contributing his observations on birds to OBC and BNHS.
An enthusiastic bird photographer, Jijo set the benchmark for being the first person to capture the Nilgiri Thrush in his lens that got featured in OBC Bulletin as well as to record the breeding habits of Slaty-legged crake in Kerala. He is a sport when it comes to accompanying birders and wildlife lovers from all corners of the world, some of whom are big names in the birding industry.
